Wally Wood inks Steve Ditko, with a Sergio Aragones closing panel! From Plop #16, September 1974. I read this story when I was way too young, and I believe it warped my brain:

See what I mean? It starts out like Mad magazine, and turns into a 70s psycho-killer movie! But hey, at least by the end of the story, Hubert is no longer an impotent weenis, disconnected from his surroundings! He’s engaged! Vital, even!
The rendering of Hubert’s oddball performance throughout the story is a tour-de-force of mood and expression. Check out his demented feline smile in panel 4 of page 3!
Here are some other favorites, starting with this Will Elder-esque panel. Why does that grey cat look so angry?

Hubert’s expression of surprise and delight in this next panel made a huge impression on my pre-adolescent nerd self. To this day, I dream of a prehensile dandelion girlfriend of my very own! (sigh)

And finally, a panel that had a significant and questionable effect on l’il Don (by which I mean myself and not my manservant). To this day, I often find myself muttering Humbert’s final soliloquy (well, this or, “ape killed ape!”) under my breath at the most inappropriate times!

Essay Question – (30% of final grade): From a moral relativist point of view, are Humbert’s actions justifiable?
